Courtney started dancing ballroom in college before spending five years in a Nashville studio where she was trained by champion dancers in dancing technique, teaching technique, and theater arts. Through the years, Courtney has competed professionally in American Smooth and Theater Arts.
She still loves teaching beginners as much as competitive dancers and is so excited to be bringing modern ballroom to Baton Rouge in a new, fun and exciting environment.
Johanna has enjoyed both music and athletics since before she can remember (though she doesn’t claim the best memory). She began taking piano at an early age, and over the years she has gained experience in many and varied sports such as kung fu, ice hockey, and horseback riding. She first dipped her toe into ballroom dance during her sophomore year in college, and she was immediately enamored with the challenging amalgamation of movement, music, and partnership.
She has an endless enthusiasm for all dances, though her favorites are the smart and sassy Foxtrot, Swing, and Samba. She is always thrilled to share her joy of dancing with students of all levels and abilities. She brings her sweet and patient manner to private and group lessons alike, and as such she is a favorite among students.
A long-time supporter and member of Courtney Black’s BDBR, Van really loves teaching students the joys of dancing. Having a multitude of other instructional experiences, which includes private piano teaching and martial arts training among others, Van applies his aptitude for didactics to the world of ballroom dance, helping his students become better dancers.
Van has performed in numerous events such as Dancing for Big Buddy and Dancing for a Cause, both of which are charity programs. Though he is knowledgeable in Smooth dances, he prefers the realm of Latin and Swing; Salsa and West Coast Swing are among his favorites. With his caring nature and good attitude, Van is an excellent choice for a dance instructor.
